Becoming a lawyer has been a huge investment in the work and services I can provide to writers and artists. As a literary agent, I can only represent a few dozen writers and must be ultra-selective because of the commission-based business model. This means sending form rejections to hundreds of writers when what they really need is meaningful feedback and guidance.
Now I can more help artists. With the launch of my consulting and legal services I can provide career advice, writing feedback, and contract reviews to writers and artists at any stage of their journey. No more scrambling for attention in the slush pile—now you can book time with me to get full access to my expertise.
As for my work as a Literary Agent: at this time, I can only accept submissions at the writers conferences I attend or by personal referrals.
I continue specialize in commercial and genre fiction for children and adults. My passion is still amplifying the work of marginalized writers including (but not limited to writers of color, trans people, disabled people, and religious minorities.
I like books I can read on a beach vacation — fun commercial fiction, romance that ranges from sweet to steamy, otherworldly fantasy, and sweeping historical fiction. I love books about children navigating their changing relationships with family and friends, especially if they are funny, action-packed, and/or magical. I like non-fiction that offers poignant commentary on social phenomena or a practical guide on dealing with key life challenges.
In short, I love the books I have represented so far, and would like to see more of the same.
