I just signed up for a Three Month Challenge hosted by CharyJay of ShrinkGrowLearn. Here is my submission entry:
My name is Nicki. I am subscribed to your blog via Google under the name Nicki Valcius.
LEARN: I want to complete all my assignments on time this semester. I plan to go to my profs’ office hours at least once per week and add structure to my school life.GROW: I want to “grow’ my cultural knowledge. (Is that too much of a stretch? lol) I bought a Haitian cookbook and plan to make at least one dish per week. I may also decide to read Haitian literature, history, politics, current event etc.
I will update you via email. I will track my progress on my blog.
Both challenges are important to me. I struggle academically not because I don’t understand the material but because I often do not complete the assignments. I have been dealing with alone for quite sometime and frankly, it’s not working. I have to face my fear and seek help, hence my commitment to seeing my professors once per week. I will also seek out my registrar and the academic success centre at my university. It may seem small but I’m already getting nervous…
The other challenge came about because I can’t cook… but I love food. It occurred to me that due to my environment I may likely not marry a Haitian man. Even if my future husband does know how to cook he probably won’t know my favorite dishes! Then of course is the idea of preserving my culture for future generations. to that end I bought this cookbook:
It will be arriving soon and I’m very excited to get started.
As I wrote in my submission, I will be updating my progress on this blog. For my sake I hope this challenge is a success.
