I just finished book 48 of the 50 book pledge. Assuming it won’t take me four months to read two more books, I need another challenge.
Right now I have 27 books in my To-Read pile. Considering my current pace of approximately 1.5 books per week, I have exactly enough time to get through them all!
My plan:
- Don’t buy new books! This will be super difficult because books are the only thing I impulse buy. I cannot leave a bookstore without buying something. I could try to avoid bookstores too, but that’s like telling a moth to avoid the flame. To make matters worse, I am really excited to read Ink by Sabrina Vourvoulias and the Diverse Energies anthology from Tu Books, both of which release in October. Woe.
- Don’t re-read! SavvyReader is hosting a #ReadtheHobbit Challenge. As much as I want to participate, I know I’d immediately feel compelled to re-read LOTR. And I have precious little time. Maybe I’ll dedicate 2013 to re-reads (I’m already creating a list of old favorites), but for now only new books allowed*!
- Apply the lessons I learned from the Olympic Readathon! I really am going to pass on the duds this time. For real.
Do you have any tips to help me conquer the endless To-Read pile? Can it even be done?! Let me know in the comments!
*Note: I am making an exception for The Shadow of the Wind by Zafon and The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood because they’re part of a series. Refer to the aforementioned compulsion.
I gave up buying books a few years back. It was HARD but necessary! I was burying my family in books and putting us into the poor house ;) Now I’m a happy library patron and I love it! Good luck with your pile!
The Relentless Reader
I’m delighted you are looking forward to Ink! Definitely let me know what you think after you’ve read it.
Best,
