Topic: Canada Reads 2014
Use the #DiverseCanLit tag to follow along on Twitter (or TweetChat). Last week we talked about the path to becoming a Canadian publishing professional and the obstacles that keep the industry from being more diverse. This week, we tackle Canada Reads.
I went to a Canada Reads taping a few years ago and had so much fun. The debates appeal to both my competitive nature and my love a books. This year, the theme is “One Novel to Change Our Nation” and the contenders are all fantastic. Below are a few of the questions we may discuss tomorrow as we get pumped for the debates:
- Have you ever watched Canada Reads? Will the diverse group of books, authors, and defenders encourage you to watch this year?
- If you have followed Canada Reads, what are some diversity highlights from past years? Low points?
- The question “Is it Canadian enough?” always comes up at these debates. Do some books have more What advice would you give Donovan Bailey, for example on defending Half-Blood Blues?
- Which book do you think should win?
