When I became a literary agent last year, I was most excited to work more closely with writers. The publishing process can be complicated and I am eager to use my skills and expertise to provide insight on getting published.
To facilitate this I started LMV Office Hours to take 1-on-1 meetings and provide consultations. In November, I hosted my first session. I visited one of my favorite bookstores in Toronto, A Different Booklist, and answered questions in person, on Twitter and on Instagram.
The session was wonderful! People came to talk to me about their memoirs, their cookbooks, and even their picture books. We discussed the pros and cons of self-publishing, the basic principles of a profit and loss sheet, and shifts in the marketplace. I also answered rapid fire questions on social media, such as how to determine your books genre, when to start querying agents, and how to approach concerns with a co-author. No question was to big or small and everyone gained from the experience.
I’m pleased to announce that A Different Booklist and I are partnering to do it again. I will be at the bookstore on Friday, January 25, 2019 taking appointments from 10am to 3pm. Register here to book your consultation.
Can’t come to Toronto? A limited number of appointments are available via teleconferencing. You can also join in on Twitter and IG using the hashtag #LMVOfficeHours. Start submitting your questions now and I will answer as many as I can on Friday, Jan 25.
