I am so grateful for this work that puts me in conversation with brilliant artists. I am so excited to be in conversation with the incredible Laurie Halse Anderson on Wednesday Oct 16. We’ll be at the Toronto Reference Library Atrium discussing her new memoir SHOUT, as well as the lasting impact of her groundbreaking novel SPEAK.
I have to admit I cried a lot while reading these books in preparation for the event. Sexual violence touches everyone in our society. The fear alone shapes how we talk or don’t talk about sex. Laurie Halse Anderson writes extensively about her rage but I am most struck by her compassion. Then again, in these difficult times rage and compassion come from that same place of love.
